Shopping for someone who camps with their dog is easy to get wrong. Some dog gear is bulky, some is the wrong size, and some is cute but never leaves the house. These dog camping gifts all pack into a van, camper, or tent, and they get used at the campsite or on the trail.

A few are from my Etsy shop. I’ve marked where I’m describing something we’ve used and where I’m simply recommending it.

Stocking stuffer: A flip-up water bottle

K9 Sport Sack sent me their Springer 20 oz Flip Dog Travel Water Bottle to try. Our dog was able to drink from the built-in bowl. It’s easy to clean and easy to carry on a short walk or hike by simply attaching it to our day pack with the attached carabiner clip.

The silicone bowl flips up for drinking and folds back down for storage. It’s $28 at the time of writing, comes in six colors, and has a one-year warranty.

Personalized dog camping gifts from my shop

Pet placemat. This one has a national park-style sign with your pet’s name, “Pet Ranger Division,” and “Chief Exploration Officer,” plus two bowl spots labeled Crumb Canyon and Hydration Hollow. It wipes clean, so it works in a camper kitchen as well as at home. Grab it here.

Pet blanket. Same national park sign style, printed on a blanket with a topographic background and your dog’s name. It’s a good fit for chilly mornings at camp or a cabin stay.

For road-trip feeding: a kibble travel bag

The Ruffwear Kibble Kaddie is a food travel bag for carrying kibble on the road. I have not used this, but I am considering purchasing it to replace the plastic container we use to store our dog’s food. I can see how this could be a great addition to a backpacking trip with a dog, especially if your dog packs its own gear.

Campsite comfort: an elevated bed with a canopy

This is the piece of gear our dog uses most. He lounges on it as soon as we set it up at camp. When we’re in a shady spot, we leave the canopy off. It’s really useful for hot, sunny stops, especially desert parks or beach campsites.

Peace of mind: safety gear

These aren’t exciting to unwrap, but they’re the gifts people tend not to buy themselves.

  • Pet first aid kit. Look for one with bandages, antiseptic wipes, a tick remover, and paw protection.
  • Pet temperature monitor. It tracks the temperature inside a van, camper, or tent and sends alerts to a phone, which helps on warm-weather trips. We use this every time we leave our dog alone in the van.
  • Lights for dog collar. These safety lights attach to your dog’s collar for those night walks around the campsite.

For the owner: a dog friendly RV travel guide

My RV Travel With Dogs digital download covers packing lists, safety notes, campground rules, and pet-friendly destinations. It’s a digital file, so it works as a last-minute gift with no shipping.
